Curt Simmons, pitcher.

Simmons was the last survivor of the mostly young 1950 Phillies team known as the Whiz Kids, who captured the National League pennant on the final day of the season, only to be swept by the Yankees in the World Series.
While pitching for the Phillies, Simmons was a three-time All-Star. In his mid-30s, after coming back from elbow surgery, he pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals’ 1964 N.L. pennant winners and started twice in their seven-game World Series victory over the Yankees.
Relying on his fastball early on and later reinventing himself with a variety of pitches that kept batters off stride, Simmons had a career record of 193 victories and 183 losses.

For the record: NYT obits for Stuart Margolin and Mike Leach.

It has been a busy week so far, and tomorrow will continue, with Friday also being scheduled tightly. So I just got a chance to catch up with things here. And damned if I don’t see Stuart Margolin has passed away. He was always a favorite of mine, on everything he was in.
A usual on so many shows like Mannix, or that type, he played the buddy type, but not usually the one who dies in the end. He was more of a needed helper, who often showed up and untied the hero, or drove the getaway car, to pick up the good guy who had rescued the hot girl, or something.
As far as the suicide of tWitch, I never knew him or his work, but I am always saddened by anyone’s death by such method. I doubt that there exists any family that has not been touched by suicide in some way. Our family had a cousin who went deer hunting and never returned, only to be found dead in the woods, of a self inflicted gun shot wound.
He was a distant cousin of mine, but my dad was close to his dad, and it affected my dad much more. So thank you for posting the hotline for suicide prevention. With so many people of both genders coming home from military deployments over the past, that is another possible suicide situation that needs to have attention paid to it, as well.
Until next time, many you all be well.

If you’re ever within about 200 miles of Austin, let’s grab some food.

I will plan on it. I don’t know if it is ever in the cards but I would love to sit down and chat.
