And yet another dose of hoplobibliophilia.

A while back, great and good FotB (and official trainer to WCD) Karl Rehn introduced me to the work of the Snub Gun Study Group. From there, I learned about Stephen A. Camp.

I don’t know a lot about him. I picked up from his writings that he was in law enforcement for a time (25 years with the Denton PD), and had a reputation as a gun writer and gun guy before he passed away in 2011. (He was 59, which seems a lot younger to me than it used to.) The SGSG has reprinted some of his articles, and you can find a lot more of them at his website, “Hi Powers and Handguns“.

When I bought my Airweight, I figured I could take some of the money I saved and invest in some of Mr. Camp’s books. So…

The Shooter’s Guide to Airweight J-Frames. Here’s the table of contents if you’re interested in what he covers:

Mr. Camp had a reputation as the go-to guy for Hi Powers. As you know, Bob, I love me some Hi Powers, and since I was placing an order anyway, might as well save on shipping…

The Shooter’s Guide to the Browning Hi Power, revised edition. The table of contents and other background is on that page, so I’m not including that here.

I’ve had these around for a while, but haven’t read them yet. The J-frame book is at the top of the stack, though, and I should be done with that soon (138 pages). The “Hi Powers and Handguns” site contains an extensive collection of his writings, though, so if you don’t trust me, you can get a full banquet of his writings before you order.

I also feel like buying these books is a mitzvah. You’re not just getting some good information from a well regarded gun guy, you’re also helping to keep his memory alive and putting some money in his family’s pocket. Why not take a flyer on one of his books that matches your interests?
