I’ve been a little off my feed recently (for reasons that are not open to discussion), but I’m starting to feel a little better. And Half-Price Books sent out another batch of coupons: I wasn’t able to use them Monday or Wednesday because reasons, but I have picked up a few mildly interesting things the rest of the week that I figured I’d share:
- The Kill Riff, by David J. Schow. First edition first printing hardcover in nearly new condition with non-price clipped dust jacket. Signed by Schow. Paid $5. Probably not worth much more than that, but I’m kind of fond of this book.
- The Box: How the Shipping Container Made the World Smaller and the World Economy Bigger. Some people on TJIC’s Twitter feed were talking about it, TJIC owns a copy, I stumbled across this one, and, well, one thing leads to another…
- No Middle Name: The Complete Collected Jack Reacher Short Stories. I like Jack Reacher, and I like short story collections: you can dip in, read one, and dip back out again. Found at half cover price, minus 40% from that. so I can’t complain too much.
- Custer Battle Guns. A little outside of my usual area, but not that far outside.
- Titanic Thompson: The Man Who Bet on Everything. Hadn’t even heard of this though I have read about Titanic Thompson. Stumbled across it on the true crime shelf, and paid half cover price minus 40%: seemed worth taking a flyer on.
I have one more book on hold waiting for tomorrow’s 50% off coupon, and that may be the subject of a separate post. It combines one of my interests – African hunting – with childhood nostalgia and one of my favorite writers. No, not Ruark: the other guy.
