TMQ Watch: October 6, 2015.

Wednesday, October 7th, 2015

Yes, we know, we’re late again. We have a worse excuse this time: we put off TMQ Watch so we could go to the Alamo Drafthouse and watch “Sicario”.

It has actually been a big movie week for us: in addition to “Sicario”, we watched “Black Mass” with Lawrence on Saturday. We may have some more thoughts on both later on. (And “The Martian” is on our list. We don’t expect that to vanish from theaters any time soon. Yes, this is relevant to TMQ; see below.)

After the jump, this week’s TMQ

Take me out to the ball game…

Monday, April 6th, 2015

It appears that opening day has snuck up on me again.

It also looks like the Cubs will be unable to sell beer at Wrigley Field this year.*

However, I still have faith; that’s one game out of 162. And, yes, I’ve bet Lawrence $5 that the Cubs will win the World Series this year.

* Because they lost the home opener.

Edited to add: Giggle. Snort.

Duke sucks.

Duke, however, does not suck enough.

Gonzaga!

Yes, I owe Lawrence $5. I’m not that disappointed, though: making the final eight is a pretty good run, and I think Gonzaga is going to get stronger and stronger in the coming years.

You say Go-zinga, I say Gonzaga!

Monday, March 16th, 2015

Once again, Lawrence and I have agreed to a small ($5) wager on the NCAA bracket: I’m taking Gonzaga, he’s taking the field.

I like Gonzaga’s chances this year. And as I always say, even if I lose, I get $5 worth of entertainment out of the deal.

Obit watch and other random notes for March 18, 2014.

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

Clarissa Dickson Wright. Damn, this sucks. I was a fan of “Two Fat Ladies”.

For the record, here’s your David Brenner obit: I’ve been just a touch busy. Sorry.

Part of that busy has involved visiting various Half-Price Books locations: would you believe I can’t find a used copy of Fatal Vision? It used to be all over the place…

Once again, I don’t care about college basketball. Once again, I’m rooting for Gonzaga just because I like saying “Gonzaga!” I think this might be their year. And, once again, I’ve bet Lawrence $5 that Gonzaga will win the championship.

And baseball season is about to get started as well. Everyone knows what that means: yes, I’ve also bet Lawrence $5 that the Cubs will win the World Series.

TMQ Watch: October 15, 2013.

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

Let us start off with one of TMQ Watch’s patented musical interludes. This one even has a small amount of relevance to this week’s TMQ:

You’ve got to love YouTube comments:

Yeah. About that, Steve.

Anyway, with that diversion out of the way, let’s get into this week’s TMQ, after the jump…

I owe Lawrence $5.

Oh, well, there’s always next year.

Hope springs eternal.

Monday, April 1st, 2013

Once again, I’ve bet Lawrence $5 that the Cubs will win the World Series this year. This post is to document that bet.

(I actually have his money for the Gonzaga bet, and will pay him next time I see him.)

Gonzaga?

Sunday, March 24th, 2013

What is wrong with you people?

You go in as a #1 seed, and you lose this early to Wichita State?

You’ve cheated me out of my $5 worth of entertainment, and now I have to pay off my bet to Lawrence.

See if I bet on you next year.

Gonzaga!

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Yep. I took Gonzaga, Lawrence took the rest of the field, $5 straight across, again.

This post is to document our wager.

I have a good feeling about Gonzaga this year.

(I also have a good feeling about the Cubs this year. But we’ll wait until closer to opening day for that.)

Your loser update.

For the record: Grambling played their SWAC tournament game Wednesday night…and lost, finishing the season 0-28.

Meanwhile, Liberty University (of Jerry Falwell fame) started the season 0-8. But:

With four consecutive upsets, each one a little more astounding than the last, Liberty won the Big South tournament and barged into the N.C.A.A. tournament with a 15-20 record.

(I don’t place bets before the brackets are announced, but I’m thinking this is Gonzaga’s year. Just an aside.)

Lawrence sent me a link that seems to imply the Cubs have been mathematically eliminated.

MLB.com seems to confirm this.

So this is to document that I owe Lawrence $5.

Edited to add 9/24: Paid in full, in front of witnesses.
